Becoming the best version of yourself

Another “New” Year Philosophy!

“Although no one can go back and make a brand new start, Anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending”

If I hadn’t just changed the bottom of my signature line on my email, I would have used this one.  What a profound yet easily followed suggestion?

We especially – at this time of the year, are thinking of changes we want to make to our lives, and resolutions to make our days brighter, healthier, better, happier – all those thoughts.

Truly tho’, except for a mulligan in golf, we rarely get many “do overs”!  Life just doesn’t work that way.

So what I take from this quote is simply that while I can’t change the past, or my actions and thoughts from “before” – I do have all the choices ahead of me of how I move forward.

So here’s to a great new beginning to my brand new ending!  Like it says in the country song of the female lead singer . . . “Can I get a big Hell Yeah?”

New Year’s Eve – A Favorite . . .

. . . and boy am I in the minority.  I like to go someplace festive and celebrate.  Most of my friends want to stay in – I stay in all the time so to me, I want to be with happy, fun people to welcome in the New Year.

Think of all the possibilities for all the wonderful things that might happen to you in 2018?

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it, with a glass of bubbly in my hand!

I didn’t reach my goal of 100 followers by year’s end – bummer.  So if you know of just one friend you could share this blog with?  I bet I can get to 100 in 2018!  What are your 2018 goals?

See you on the flip side, love my followers – CHEERS!!

The Holi”daze” Is Ramping Up – – –

So here’s a little “giggle” to put a smile on your exhausted face!

https://usat.ly/2o6Dbjy

(If the link doesn’t work here, copy and paste in your browser!)      And remember – – –

Don’t let the craziness of the season cause you to forget the real reason we celebrate!

And just a few extra thoughts for this year:

If you run outta wrapping paper, recycle some newspaper or use a cute bag!

If you forgot a gift and it’s last minute – give a “one free lunch after the New Year just so we can visit” IOU!

If you have a “hard to buy for” relative that already has everything?  A photobook brings joy all year ’round.   From the grandkids to past adventures you’ve shared, it’s a gift that keeps on giving!

If you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed, find a Holiday musical program at a church nearby, attend and just – – – listen!

If you want to feel festive “for free”? – gather the family, some hot chocolate, and drive through the neighborhoods with holiday lights a’glow!   Wave at your neighbor and spread good cheer!

If you want to do good and don’t know how or where, find an organization or a church that offers “adopt a family” and take your kids shopping for someone else who may not have a bright holiday this year.

If you shop in bulk at Sam’s or Costco, or just need to clean out your pantry – donate to your local Food Bank!

Spread the warmth and glow of the season, be the difference in a person’s day, make a change and be the change.   Happiest of Holidays to all of you from me!

Complaining – It’s Everywhere . . .

Recently I wrote about changing your attitudes, being more positive!  Safe to say, I have less than positive feelings about complaining!

People who complain alot – do they really think that’s going to change anything?  I’ve admitted in the past that I used to REALLY complain about bad drivers.  EGAD – where are these people from?  But I have made a concerted effort lately to not let it rattle me as much.

(Is that called “practice what you preach”?)

Are you hurting the other person?  Nope.  Are you changing the other person’s behavior?  Most likely not.  Complaining hurts me; it leads to anger, headaches, bitterness, negativity, raised blood pressure, and I’m pretty sure my eyes cross and I get those frown wrinkles between my brows.  Botox anyone?

I found a definition of the action:  “Complaining is expressing dissatisfaction with a circumstance that is not wrong and about which I’m doing nothing to correct.”

Just because it’s wrong in my opinion, does it necessarily make it wrong?  Deep thoughts to leave you with:

Criticism involves people; complaining involves circumstances.”

In the season of Thanksgiving, definitely something to be aware of as we go about our busy daily lives.

Thought For The Day (and always):

Part Four – – –

Replace a doubting attitude, with an attitude of faith!

Faith – sometimes you feel like it leaves you.  You begin to doubt everything that you learned growing up, because most likely few of us have the lives today we thought we were going to.

Am I right?

My Father and I had a special relationship.  He was my hero, I miss him every day.  If he said he was going to do something, and the creek didn’t rise, he did it.  You could count on him and I did.  I never had any doubt in him.

Doubt was something that entered my life in college.  Was I good enough?  Was I smart enough?  Would I get a job?  Could I support myself?  He had always been my rock and my foundation making sure to bolster my self confidence and make me believe in myself.

As an adult, doubt enters your life many times – and suddenly your hero isn’t there for you any more.  Others that you depend on let you down, you fell abandoned.  You lose faith in all you were taught to believe in.

I’ve had the chance over the past ten years to face my doubts, and to re-establish my faith, both in people and in my own spirituality.  Don’t get me wrong, people will still let me down.  The difference is now I have the faith to move past those disappointments.  I have the faith that I am going to be alright!

Part Three – – –

The third “attitude” change from the book:

“Lord, Change My Attitude Before It’s Too Late”

by:  James MacDonald

Replace a critical attitude, with an attitude of love.

This is a tough one; we all can be critical of people, places and things when we’re having a really bad day.  It just comes out whether we mean it to or not.

Case in point, never have a witnessed such a “divide” in our country since the last Presidential election.   NO – I’m not going to talk politics here, but I use as an example a severe case of criticism from all sides.  Mudslinging – It’s everywhere, there’s no escaping it.

People are unfriending people because of it.  When does it stop?  Where does it end?

It stops and ends when we begin as a nation, to change our attitudes to ones of more love, kindness and tolerance.

I’ve witnessed this first hand the last month + after Hurricane Harvey devastated my hometown of Houston and many surrounding areas.  Though Harvey made landfall over Rockport, TX, what you saw on the national news was all related to Houston.

A miraculous thing happened.  Neighbor began helping neighbor.  Strangers began helping strangers.  Everyone put aside their “critical attitudes” and showed tremendous amounts of love and compassion.  Critical attitudes were forgotten, and an outpouring of love such as I’ve never/ever seen replaced it.

Will this replace all the hate?  Sadly no, but it’s a start.  Proud of my city and state for coming together and showing a nation how it can be done.  Let’s keep it up!

Chick Flick

Chick Flicks!  We all have our favorites, most of them end “happily ever after”, or at least “happy”?

They’re the ones that you could never get your husband/date/significant other to go see with you at the theater, so you waited to go with a group of gal pals, or just waited to see it on HBO, or Showtime, or Netflix.

I watched one of these the other night, and it so reminded me of my life, and how a group of women “function” many times.  It has best friends, and three generations of women characters.  It had it’s fun parts, it’s sad parts, it’s silly parts, and it’s poignant moments.  So just thought I would throw it out there in case you’ve never seen it.

The Women

It has a great ensemble cast of women such as Meg Ryan, Candice Bergen and Annette Bening. After I watched it, I realized thinking back that there were never any men in the scenes.  Or if there were, I don’t remember them.  They’re always “implied”.  The movie is all about the relationships and interactions of the women.

So next time you don’t have plans and have an evening “in” to fill, add this one to your watch list.  I think you’ll enjoy it!  And hopefully you’ll appreciate all those wonderful women you have in your life, like I do.
